Abstract
Background;
A nonsurgical castration method was developed as an alternative to surgical castration in Sahel bucks. We evaluated the efficacy of bilateral intratesticular injections of calcium chloride dehydrate (CaCl2) in ethanol, bilateral intratesticular injections of olive oil, and the burdizzo technique to castrate 20 Sahel bucks.
Methods;
The bucks were randomly allocated to four treatment groups (A, B, C, and D). The study evaluated histopathology following castration as an indicator of effective castration. Group A served as the control and received bilateral intratesticular injection of 1.0 mL of normal saline, Group B underwent the Burdizzo castration technique, Group C received bilateral intratesticular injection of 1.0 mL of CaCl2, and Group D received bilateral intratesticular injection of 1.0 mL of olive oil.
Results;
Significant differences in testicular morphometry and histopathology were observed among treatment groups, with the CaCl₂-treated goats showing a marked reduction in testicular circumference and significantly smaller bilateral testicular diameters by day 60, while olive oil treatment resulted in comparatively larger circumferences. Gross and microscopic evaluations revealed treatment-specific lesions,
Conclusion;
We found that the olive oil method of castration is the preferred technique among the other castration methods in this research.

Key words: Keywords: Castration, burdizzo, Sahel bucks, Calcium Chloride, Olive oil and Bucks
